A few words about the importance of Love in Agriculture.
Hello to my Friends and my fellow Farmers.
I haven't forgotten about all of the home gardeners out there, our
medicine men, our cannabis growers, our ranchers, beekeepers, artists,
musicians, our makers, bakers, seed savers, the movers, and the shakers. I see
you out there. Thank you for all the wonderful work that you are doing. We are in
this together. I'm proud of each of you. Never stop because we need you more
than ever.
I would like to start off by thanking you for taking the time to
stop by. I hope you find our time here meaningful. I write these words with the
intention of leaving a few souls inspired. I want to cultivate strength and
resilience in our community. I mean this from the bottom of my heart.
Today I want to talk about Love. In particular, I'd like to talk
about Love in Agriculture. Before we get too deep I would like to leave you
with a quote from John Muir.
"When one tugs at a single thing in nature, he finds it attached to the rest of the
world.".
This quote captures the essence of what I would really like to
touch on. We as human beings are not separate from this Earth. We are not
separate from nature; in fact, we are part of it.
Love for our Earth, and Love for our work is directly connected to
Love for ourselves.
Self-Love is where it all starts. Without Love and Respect for
ourselves, we do not hold the tools to properly care for our land, animals, or
those around us. We must treat our Earth with the unconditional love that we
all desire. We must fall to our knees and give thanks for all the beautiful
gifts she has given us.
Most importantly we must forgive ourselves for how much we have
disrespected our Mother Planet. This will allow us to move forward in a healthy
way. We need to be completely honest with ourselves about how
disconnected we have become. We are all in this together.
It starts with honesty with ourselves. This gives us the eyes to
be able to see truth.
Being able to see truth will broaden our capacity to Love.
Let's get back to Farming. Our farms are a manifestation of
ourselves. Beautiful farms are created by people with the ability to recognize
beauty. The more we can recognize truth the broader our ideal of beauty
becomes. The more we work with natural systems we confirm in ourselves how
connected we truly are to the world around us. We begin to see the Magic. We
feel more fulfilled in a life of service to something bigger ourselves. We feel
beautiful knowing we are connected to it.
The way we guide the management on our farms should be akin to how
we would like to raise our children. From a place of Love, with intentions of
our farms becoming better and stronger over time. Similar to children if our
farm isn't raised with these intentions, problems will present themselves in
the future. We must gain ears to listen to what our farms are telling us. So we
might move fluidly with their needs rather than with force or control. Managing
Holistically rather than reactively. Eager to learn from our land, allowing it
teach us lessons about ourselves and where we came from.
Lets us never forget that the pursuit of truth is noble and that
acting in love is the most powerful thing we can do. Let us feel empowered in
our work and proud of contributing to our communities. Lets us know in the
depths of our being that we are all in this together.
Let us never forget the gifts we receive from being connected with
the land.
